Sphagnum moss is a genus of between 150-350 species of mosses commonly called peat moss, due to its prevalence in peat bogs.
We use this genus in Venus Flytrap growth as it can hold a particularly high content of water within it’s cells, up to 20 times it’s dry weight.
Venus Flytrap horticulturists often top their peat mix with Sphagnum moss to increase it’s water content and aid aesthetics.
